This beautiful and peaceful town is becoming a refuge for wealthy people who don’t want to be in popular places like Ibiza or Marbella.
Since the internet allows us to be connected all the time, no matter where we are, people have many more options when it comes to where to live, or at least spend as much time as possible.
And Altea is becoming a refuge for many of them, and of diverse nationalities.
They come from all over the world, and from the most unexpected places in the world.
Our wonderful climate, combined with the quality of the air and food, the proximity to the Alicante and Valencia airports with countless daily flights to Europe, the high-speed train station to Madrid less than 40 minutes away, and the wide range of bilingual schools available, make Altea an increasingly sought-after location for foreign buyers looking for their own private paradise.
All of this is being noticeably reflected in the real estate market.
First of all, there is a significant shortage of properties for sale.
Secondly, the few owners who put their properties up for sale are asking for increasingly high prices, so prices are skyrocketing…
And let’s not even talk about rentals.
There’s practically no supply, and if something comes up, it’s rented the same day, with a casting call included…

The City Council has launched a paving campaign for several streets in the town and the Sierra de Altea Golf Course.
This is a map of the streets that will be paved or have already been paved:
I think it’s great.
What I don’t think is great are the bathtubs (they call them speed bumps, meaning speed bumps). I call them bathtubs because it reminds me of snow skiing where they hold bathtub competitions.
When I spend the 3:00 a.m. on the way from Altea Hills to the Algar River Bridge, plus the 11:00 a.m. drive back, in the Smart, my body, and especially my back, remind me of this!
And that’s not even mentioning Puerto Campomanes, Sierra de Altea, etc., etc.

Altea is putting out to tender the construction of the Pont de Moncau bridge, a project that will last at least ONE year.
The project will be carried out to renew the entire sanitation and drinking water network, “in addition to implementing changes that improve mobility on these roads.”
The project will run from the National Highway to Plaza de la Creu.
Should we bet they’ll make it semi-pedestrian with restricted traffic?

The Cap Negret pedestrian path is now open to the public
It will be officially inaugurated shortly, but is already accessible.
It runs from the Volcanic Outcrop to the Costa Bella Building.
It has been extended to the edge of the Altea Sol Building, opposite the Cap Negret bunker, and through the arcades of the Trovador Building.
A beautiful walk to take at any time.
In the late afternoon, you can see many people doing their daily exercise routine.
